Apartment moves in Calgary are all about logistics: elevators, loading zones, timed access, and tight hallways. With the right preparation, even a downtown high-rise move goes smoothly — below we explain what to confirm with building management, how to stay within elevator time windows, and how to pack a “small apartment” so the crew can work fast and safely.

Elevators & building access

  • Book the elevator for both origin and destination. Most condos require padding and a refundable damage deposit. Ask for the elevator key and the exact time window.
  • Loading zone & parking. Confirm where the truck can park and the maximum vehicle height. City rules for curbside and parkade use — City of Calgary Parking.
  • Pathway protection. We bring floor runners, corner guards, and door-jamb protectors. Let us know in advance if you have marble or soft floors.

Packing for small spaces

Uniform small/medium boxes stack better in elevators and reduce the number of trips. Label each box with room + contents. Use wardrobe boxes for closets and clear totes for “first night essentials.” For delicate items, follow our fragile packing guide.

Stairs, narrow turns & furniture

  • Measure your largest items (sofas, wardrobes, cabinets) against door frames and elevator dimensions.
  • IKEA/knock-down furniture is often faster to disassemble — let us know if you need tools or hardware bags.
  • For walk-ups, we may assign an extra mover to keep pace and reduce fatigue on long stair flights.

Timing & cost factors

Pricing depends on crew size, elevator time windows, distance, and bulky items. Weekends and month-end dates fill up early. For an accurate estimate, share a quick room-by-room list (or photos) and your elevator windows — we’ll confirm the duration and adjust the schedule accordingly.

Insurance & condo requirements

We carry company liability and cargo coverage. Some buildings require a Certificate of Insurance (COI) — we can issue it upon request. Move-out tips and tenancy rules can be found via the province: Government of Alberta — Residential Tenancies.

Micro-checklist before the crew arrives

  1. Elevator time slots booked; concierge/FOB access arranged.
  2. Loading zone/parkade cleared and confirmed for truck height/length.
  3. “First-night” box and essentials bag set aside.
  4. Appliances disconnected; electronics packed with labeled cable bags.
  5. Pets secured in a safe room/carrier during loading.
